Chemical processing case study: Reducing downtime after severe motor failure
When a customer serving chemical processing operations experienced a locked-up industrial motor, EMC’s inspection found signs of severe bearing damage, overheating, a missing cooling fan, and possible internal electrical damage. EMC recommended a full motor replacement to reduce downtime, avoid unreliable repair costs, and help prevent future motor failure through proper bearing lubrication training and stocked replacement fans.

As to be expected, bearings cannot last forever in a centrifugal pump, and eventually, bearings will fail. “This is because pump bearings usually fail from causes other than fatigue” 1 . These causes of bearing failure vary greatly, however, the reasons include “excessive thrust, misalignment, inadequate lubrication, impact, static vibration, insufficient loading and contamination” 2
